Asbestos is a material that occurs naturally in the environment and due to its unique combination of flexibility, strength and insulation it became a very popular product used by the building industry from the late 1800s.
Asbestos fibres are 50 to 200 times thinner than a strand on human hair! They can float in the air for quite a period of time and can also be invisible to the naked eye.
Asbestos can become dangerous if the asbestos product is disturbed, accidentally damaged, weathered or work upon. When this happens the fibres have the opportunity to become airborne and can pose a health risk if inhaled.
If your house was built between 1930 and 1990 in Australia there is a very high chance that asbestos was used in some areas of the construction of the home.
IPI Norwest can perform a thorough asbestos inspection and identify all materials and areas in your home that we believe may contain asbestos. We will take a small sample from each suspected area and have them laboratory tested to confirm the type of asbestos fibres and the percentage (%) per sample.
From here we can advise if the asbestos poses an immediate threat and provide advice to the best ways to manage the asbestos in your home and to keep you and your family safe.
